Marine Stewardship Council: secure and efficient Certificate Management with Ecert
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to contribute to the health of the world’s oceans by means of their MSC program. MSC puts a strong emphasis on sustainable fishing practices and, therefore, strongly relies on the traceability of the products. Only those products which meet all requirements are allowed to carry the worldwide known blue ecolabel.
The main requirement of MSC, whose aim has always been to guarantee consumers a secure standard with their MSC ecolabel, was to make the ecolabel more secure and the products more transparent. MSC wanted a clearly structured administration of its certificate holders as well as a simple inspection process for their suppliers. Moreover, the aim was to provide a public certificate platform and make the cooperation with audit and certification bodies as easy as possible.
The requirements regarding Ecert were solved by means of a tool which enables the comprehensive management of certificate and license holders. An online portal facilitates the decentralized data administration for audit and certification bodies. The clearly structured supply chain mapping provides a simple and quick overview of the certificate and license holders as well as their suppliers. In order to improve transparency, a public online certificate query for suppliers and consumers was installed.
Thanks to all these modules MSC can now manage their certificate and license holders more efficiently. Moreover, the supply chain mapping allows the display of complex supplier data including the certificate status, thus, ensuring that MSC cannot only guarantee but also prove the quality of its products.
